Podio – One app to rule them all, One app to bind them

Media_http7mshcdncomw_fhjdb

It’s Basecamp … it’s Highrise … it’s DropBox … it’s Yammer … it’s … Podio? Yes it is. And it’s on your iPhone, your iPad, your Android device, and in your office. Danish start-up Podio has elegantly married file sharing, contact management, task tracking, real-time asynchronous communication (i.e. Twitter functions) and more into a single, easy to use, free package. Did I say free? Yeah I did. Free for up to 10 users in a company. $99/year for up to 25. That makes Podio a no-brainer for solo’s and small law firms. Compare what it does and what it costs with the bill of goods you’re currently being sold by legal technology vendors who assume lawyers are too uninformed, gullible, or busy to check up on them. It’s shameful. Meanwhile, Podio integrates functions that the more tech-literate among us now use in Basecamp, Dropbox, Yammer, and other applications. But for most lawyers Podio will simply be a revelation and unbelievable resource. Hey, did I just save you thousands of dollars in useless, bloated office software? I think I did. You’re welcome. And by the way: Boom Shakalaka!

AT&T to T-Mobile: “I will eat your soul”

Att_swallows_t-mobile

The rich get richer …

As you probably know by now, this weekend AT&T and Deutsche Telekom entered into a definitive agreement for the sale of T-Mobile for $39 billion, creating a cell carrier just bigger than Verizon with a customer base of 130 million people; giving rise to a virtual monopoly among cell carriers . Looks like AT&T is back in its comfort zone.

iPhone and iPad users can now look forward to decades of sub-par service from the leaders in customer disappointment. Glad I bought that iPad with 3G capabilities so I can give more of my $ to AT&T.

iPad2 vs. Competitors … iPad Wins

Media_http8mshcdncomw_ohddq

The helpful infographics in this article compare the iPad 2 against the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10, HP Touchpad, and LG G-Slate. As for me, Of course I’ve already ordered my iPad 2 so … I guess you could say I’ve made a comitment. And come to think of it you can suck it iPad wanna-be’s. Actually,I had my reasons for passing on the Xoom’s promise of “4G speeds” and reduced form factor of the Tab. Actualy, I had 65,000 reasons for picking the iPad2 – coincidentally the # of available apps. That’s a hell of a lead – the kind that makes it worthwhile to stick with the leader.

Foursquare Adds Recommendations

Foursquare, the mobile application that allows you to check into locations around town like a lab-rat in a maze, can now tell you where to go as well. Now that’s a feature! Impress your friends by earning meaningless badges. Get drunk at your favorite watering hole and post compromising picturesRobert Scoble does it. Who are you to decide it’s a pointless waste of time?

Did you hear? Apple released a new product!

Media_httptctechcrunc_rphmt

This is where I would normally shoot down the product identified in the title of this post, but I have a confession to make: when it comes to the iPad 2 I’m one of the pod people .. so to speak. Yeah, I’m a rabid fanboy. So while there has been plenty of noise this past week – both pro and con – about the iPad 2, I am most convinced by articles like this one on Techcrunch written by people who were already fans of the first iPad. Why? Because they were the ones most likely to be disappointed if the product fell short of the hype. So what was the author’s take in this case? Let’s put it this way: I’m getting one in white and one in traditional silver/black. They should be here at the end of next week. Then I’ll write my own review.

Xoom Xoom … Zoom?

Articles like this one have been popping up to deliver the news that the Motorola Xoom must be upgraded in order to reach so-called 4G speeds (but see this post on why “4G” isn’t really 4G). That’s a little surprising, since the Xoom specifically differentiates itself from competitors like the iPad b/c it has “built it 4G.”

The kicker? To update the device users will need to part with it for about 10 days. In other words, if Apple was worried about its announcement of the iPad2 next week being overshadowed by the Xoom then … wait, who am I kidding? Apple was never worried.

Ed. Note – Hey Motorola, way to set the bar for tablet devices, then fail to clear it.
